What Makes A Shoe Comfortable?

Many people own more shoes than they actually wear. Quite often, the shoes we purchase feel comfortable when we first try them on, and look fantastic also, but when we start wearing them for longer periods of time, we grow increasingly uncomfortable in them. These shoes often find themselves in the back of our closet with other shoes that we don’t have the heart to get rid of, but don’t want to wear either. So what makes a shoe comfortable to wear over time?

In order to find a comfortable shoe, you must pay particular attention to the sizing, the shape of the shoe, how the shoe is constructed, the purpose of the shoe and of course the style of shoe.

Sizing

Sizing is an extremely important factor when determining if a shoe will be comfortable or not. The size of the shoe must provide support for both the length and width of your feet. It is important to note that just because you fit perfectly into a certain size in a certain shoe, this doesn’t mean that the same size will fit well with every other shoe. Your shoe size may differ depending on the material the shoe is made from and how the shoe is constructed. As a general rule, there should be one thumbs width between the end of your longest toe and the end of the shoe.

However, some people have two different sized feet, which can make purchasing shoes quite difficult.

If this is the case for you, then it is best to buy shoes to suit the size of your largest foot, and then you can add a filler to fill the void surrounding your smaller foot. It is also important to consider that your feet may swell throughout the day, causing it to be larger later on in the day. Also, particularly if you are purchasing women’s sneakers online, it is likely that you’ll wear socks, and may require a larger size to accommodate the thickness of the socks.

Shape of the Shoe

Shoemakers use something called a ‘last’ to make and shape their shoes. The last is a model of the human foot that determines the final structural shape of the shoe. If the shape of the last that is used to create the shoe is different to the shape of your foot, then it will likely be uncomfortable for you to wear. For example, if a straight last was used, but your foot is curved, your foot won’t fit properly into the shoe. This is key for people with wide feet. If you have a wide foot look for footwear which is labelled as specifically designed with wide feet in mind.

Shoe Construction

The materials that make up the shoe play a big role in whether a shoe will be lastingly comfortable. At SMAIBULUN, our leather shoes for women are constructed from premium leathers that afford high levels of flexibility, strength, and durability. Leather is breathable and has the ability to absorb moisture, which increases shoe comfort.

Purpose

When purchasing shoes, consider their purpose, including how and where you intend to wear them. If you are attending an event that will be held on unstable gravel, then heels are probably not the most comfortable and practical option. Casual shoes for women will likely be more suitable and comfortable for this situation and also ensure that the footwear lasts.

Style

Style doesn’t really contribute to shoe comfort, however, if you are not happy with the appearance of a shoe, you won’t feel comfortable and confident wearing it. Whether you are purchasing women’s sandals online or women’s boots online, be sure to choose a style that is both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable to wear. Afterall we aim to offer shoes which are comfortable, look great and are long lasting after many nights out on the town, not in the back of your wardrobe.
